Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - Designer Profile

Domenico Dolce was born in 1958 in Sicily, Italy. Here, he studied fashion design and earned experience in a clothing factory that was owned by his family. In 1980, he met Stefano Gabbana, who was born in 1962 in Venice, Italy. Gabbana lacked education in fashion design, though he did study graphic arts. Dolce and Gabbana met when they worked as assistants for the same fashion designer, who was based in Milan. They quickly became friends, and decided that they would begin to do business with one another.

Together, Dolce and Gabbana designed a collection that was well received internationally. During 1989, the fashion duo opened up a boutique in Japan. One year later, they began their first collection for men. Dolce and Gabbana also opened their first boutique for women in Milan this same year. They also took over the Complice line for Genny Group, which had been previously designed by Versace.

There are a number of celebrities who have embraced the fashions put out by Dolce and Gabbana. Madonna helped them rise to the top, by wearing one of the shirts that had been given to her as a present in a movie that she starred in. Today, some of the most fashion conscious celebrities are now fans of Dolce and Gabbana, which is also referred to as D&G. Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bundchen, Christina Aguilera, Angelina Jolie, Kylie Minogue, and Ashanti are just a few of the celebrities which have been seen wearing Dolce and Gabbana fashions.

Some of the different areas of fashion that the fashion designers have covered under their Dolce&Gabbana line include beachwear, underwear, corrective eyewear, sunglasses, fragrances, and purses. They also have a line called D&G, which tends to target the current and seasonal fashion needs of adults. D&G Junior follows the same concept, but it is designed for younger people. It’’s safe to say that Dolce and Gabbana has covered just about everyone’’s needs with the fashion lines that they carry. At one point, a special edition of Motorola cell phones were released under the Dolce and Gabbana name.

The department stores which carry the fashions by Dolce and Gabbana include Neiman Marcus, Lord and Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Throughout the United States, there are also seven Dolce and Gabbana boutiques. They are located in New York City, Beverly Hills, Long Island, Miami, Las Vegas, and Short Hills.

Dolce and Gabbana had a romantic relationship which lasted until 2005 when they decided that they were no longer suitable for one another. Fans were happy to find, however, that the break-up would not cause the fashion duo to go their separate ways. To this day, Dolce and Gabbana continue to design apparel together and it is unlikely that this will change anytime soon.
